NORTH WALES (not far from Welshpool)
Syndicate places available shooting 10 days with bags of 150 birds. The cost per gun is £3525. This 2000 acre or so partridge/pheasant shoot which is on a 4,500 acre estate is known for challenging birds, albeit at a price which can be very favourably compared to others in the area and, for example, in Devon. The owner calls the height of birds "pretty useful" and guns who can average 4 shots to 1 - particularly on the partridges -can consider themselves above average. The land is very undulating, going from about 100 feet above sea level to some 470 feet. There are about 30 blocks of woodland, varying from 65 to 3 acres which, with 14 release pens and with cover crops, allows at least 30 different drives. There are also 5 flight ponds but these are essentially for wild fowling - teal in particularly - and the shoot presents few or no driven duck on any of the drives. There are, however, good wood cock figures with 39 flushed on one drive in earlyDecember 2005.
